Essentials: Fried Biscuits, The Nashville House, Nashville, Indiana
They pair well with fried chicken.
These fried biscuits aren’t dessert. You’ll get a basket of them with your fried chicken at the Nashville House, a resurrected Civil War-era inn in scenic Brown County, Indiana. They don’t even come with the typical cinnamon-sugar dusting. They're just freshly rolled dough balls, submerged in hot oil until golden-brown, crisp outside, and light and airy inside. Add a smear of the accompanying apple butter—not jam or jelly, but butter—for a touch of sweetness. And think nothing of having another… and another. After all, they aren’t dessert. —Tony Rehagen
